Dr. Christian interacts with presenting students
Students from each of Owen J. Roberts' Elementary Schools were invited to participate in a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) celebration today, May 18.
Problem-solving at the core

Students enjoy viewing and sharing projects
The day allows for students from our 5 elementary schools to share and explore ideas with one another.
STEAM is often very collaborative

Students who participated had accomplished some type of STEAM project this year.

Students were taught how to offer helpful, positive and specific feedbacks on the projects which they viewed. Partner groups were issued an iPad in order to access QR codes which gave them access to the project feedback form.

Check out this website a group of East Vincent students developed surrounding the topic of the new school that is being built:

The day was a celebration of a year of hard work from students and every student left the event a champion!

Learning to Jump Rope

East Vincent Elementary

French Creek Elementary

East Coventry Elementary
This week, three of our elementary schools used a portion of a grant from the Pottstown Area Health and Wellness Foundation to bring in Peter Nestler, a master in jump roping and

7-Time World Champion & 11-Time Guinness World Records Holder.

Mr. Nestler's assemblies hope to entertain, but also inspire and motivate. He hopes students walk out of his program excited and engergized by the possibilities that lay in front of them--how they can create their own future, set goals and become a true champion at whatever they decide to do in life. His personal story began in second grade when a competitive jump rope team did an assembly at his school. He has been working on his jump ropes skills since that day!

The Classical Association of the Atlantic States (CAAS) designated Karin Suzadail of Owen J. Roberts High School as a “CAAS Leadership Initiative Grant Partner” through participation in a new professional initiative. CAAS Leadership Initiative Partners: Support and Outreach to Latin Teachers in the Classical Association of the Atlantic States Region (2013-16) seeks to foster contact between Latin teachers and CAAS leadership in support of pre-collegiate level Latin programs and their teachers.

Under this grant, Professor Ronnie Ancona, Hunter College and the CUNY Graduate Center, is partnering with fifteen Latin teachers over three years. Professor Ancona has extensive background in the area of Latin pedagogy. She has over twenty years of experience directing Hunter’s MA program in the teaching of Latin, has published several Latin textbooks, and is a coauthor of the APA-ACL Standards for Latin Teacher Preparation. From 2010-2014 she served as Vice President for Education of the American Philological Association (now the Society for Classical Studies). She is the immediate Past President of CAAS.

Professor Ancona spent the day with teachers and students at Owen J. Roberts High School on May 24, 2016, touring the school and visiting Latin 2, 3, and 4 Honors, AP Latin, and Latin 2 College Prep classes with Mrs. Suzadail, Ms. Colleen Marengo and Mr. Jon Yoder. Professor Ancona spent the last class of the day with Latin 1B at the Middle School.

The mission of CAAS, founded in 1907, is to strengthen teaching and research and foster public support for the languages, civilizations, and cultures of ancient Greece and Rome in the mid-Atlantic region (Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania). CAAS offers an annual fall meeting in the region typically during Columbus Day weekend. Besides papers and panels on many classical topics, these meetings are notable for their sessions on new directions in teaching and research and for their discussions and workshops on professional issues such as the state of Classics in other countries, preparation of professional abstracts, etc. All members receive the association’s quarterly journal, Classical World, which publishes articles and reviews for “the scholarly teacher and the teaching scholar.”

Congratulations to our youngest graduates! Today, the first preschool students "graduated" from their school experience at the high school.

The Wee Wildcats Preschool Program is operated in conjunction with the Preschool Lab experience class offered by the Family and Consumer Sciences Department at Owen J. Roberts High School. It provides an opportunity for high school students to reinforce learning through observation and direct contact with young children under teacher supervision.

Our preschool program is designed to foster early independence and curiosity through the use of developmentally appropriate practices.  Children learn through play and hands-on experiences in a safe and stimulating learning environment.

MS Students Mark 10,000 in NHL STEM Program

Mrs. Armstrong accepts a commemorative jersey from Mr. Bob Kelly

Flyers Alumni Bob “The Hound” Kelly was among the NHL guests to address Owen J. Roberts Middle School students on Tuesday, May 24, as part of the Future Goals program.

The school was awarded a commemorative jersey to celebrate MS students being the 10,000 participants in the NHL Future Goals program! Mrs. Jennifer Armstrong uses an online digital responsibility program in her Exploring Technology courses at the Middle School and the assembly works in tandem with that course to promote interest in STEM and digital citizenship.

According to the NHL Future Goals website, the NHL started a strategic STEM program because "Today’s students have unprecedented access to the tools of the digital age — computers, mobile devices, and social media — but they are not being taught how to leverage that technology in a responsible and safe way. Upon graduating, these students will compete in an emerging global economy fueled by rapid innovation, but many will be unprepared to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). We’re facing a growing shortage of employees with STEM skills, yet the majority of teens lose interest in these subjects before they enter tenth grade.
The Future Goals program is committed to sparking student interest in STEM topics and helping students become college-ready, career-ready, and life-ready."

Congratulations to our district Odyssey of the Mind teams

who competed this past week in World Finals competition.

A VERY special hats off to our North Coventry team who earned a third place

trophy for the district!!

The team from North Coventry accomplished this goal while competing against over 50 teams from across our country and around the world.  All of the competing teams earned the right to perform at world finals by winning their own state or national titles, besting dozens of teams along the way.  By placing third, North Coventry students out competed hundreds of teams that entered this competition way back in November.  Congratulations to students: Brooke Banninger, Lauren Bodor, Connor Fennell, Elizabeth Meyers, Megan Reynolds, Hayden Streeter, Kaylee Uba and their coach Patty Janda!

Other teams representing our district in this contest were East Vincent Elementary, French Creek Elementary, and one of our three High School squads.  All of these teams worked hard, competed well, with several finishing in the top half of their competition pool.

Once again our Odyssey students represented our district well and proved that an Owen J. Education produces strong problem solvers and some of the finest students in the world!  Go OWEN J!!
