Art Goes to School
Your child may have had a museum experience in his or her own art class! Check out the works he or she may have explored at: http://artgoestoschoolojr.myfreesites.net/gallery
Art Goes to School (AGTS) is a nonprofit organization that for the past 50 years has worked to present a wide-ranging, rotating portfolio of art to the Delaware Valley’s elementary students.
The Owen J Roberts Art Goes to School chapter is one of over 50 school districts that participate in the program. Owen J Roberts School District has participated for more than 30 years bringing the richness of visual arts appreciation to all of our elementary schools.
Art Goes to School is staffed exclusively by volunteers. AGTS volunteers start each new school year by researching pieces from rotating portfolios and presenting findings to fellow members. Then, we bring some of that knowledge back to the District's elementary classrooms in the form of Art Appreciation seminars. The greater AGTS membership gathers several times a year to share ideas and information sometimes visiting various art venues (occasionally with free, exclusive access).
The 2016 Owen J Roberts School District Portfolio includes the following works:

Alum Works for Harmony
Enjoy a song/video (below) just released by Collin Gray, OJR Class of 2012, now a senior at Yale. Collin created this in response to protests at Yale and more generally the continual struggle we've had as a nation managing diversity.
The movement’s called “Listen Louder.” It’s designed to challenge all people, especially those who benefit from some form of privilege, to acknowledge anything short of understanding, appreciation and love within themselves with a basic message to “Listen Louder” to those who walk, talk, think and feel differently. Collin feels that the
Owen J. Roberts Community helped shape a strong foundation for respect, acceptance and appreciation of others.

Owen J. Roberts School Psychologist, Dr. Brian Schneider, and Director of Technology, Mr. Paul Sanfrancesco, were on the set with News Anchor Jennifer Lewis-Hall of PHL 17 in a 30-minute segment on Digital Safety.
The Owen J. Roberts Parent Technology Series was featured as a way to help parents navigate the safekeeping of students when they are using digital media. Mr. Sanfrancesco explains why it’s so important for the school district to partner with parents. He defines sexting and cyberbullying and talks a bit about the problems. He explains that many of us, students included, are naive. We need to educate ourselves to guide children as we are really learning together. Ms. Lewis-Hall asks about hidden traps, Apps, and what parents need to know.
Dr. Schneider addresses social media and tools like computers and cellphones that make many aspects of life easier, but also carry risks for which we all need to manage. He talks about who is vulnerable for cyber-bullying and provides strategies to safeguard children.

Salad Mastery
Mrs. Erica Thomas' Family & Consumer Science students have learned a great deal this year about eating clean and organic foods. As part of their unit, the Owen J. Roberts Wellness Council, operating through a generous grant from the Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation, sponsored an organic salad making activity.
"Even the pickiest eaters gobbled it up," said Mrs. Thomas. Studies show that people of any age are more likely to try and like a food if they participate in the process of making it. Now, a very large group of Middle School students have a great organic salad and from-scratch dressing recipe in their repertoire. Students also learned how to make an all natural, no additives, electrolyte drink.
