Dr. Richard Marchini, Principal, Ms. Natalie Smith, and Citadel Manager, Richard Gray
On February 24, 2016, at the Owen J. Roberts High School, Citadel representatives awarded High School teacher and student government advisor, Ms. Natalie Smith, the Citadel Heart of Learning Finalist Award for Owen J. Roberts School District.

The Citadel Heart of Learning Award was developed by Citadel and the Chester County Intermediate Unit 14 years ago to recognize, reward and thank the outstanding teachers we have in Chester County. The program has grown in such popularity that Citadel receives thousands of heartfelt nominations each year. This year, over 2,000 nominations were submitted.

Ms. Smith accepted the award, which included a custom blown glass trophy created by Glasslight Studio in St. Peter's Village. She accepted, complimenting the entire High School staff by saying, “Twelve years ago I made a decision to join the Owen J. Roberts team. It was the best decision I could ever have made both professionally and personally because I get to work with so many talented and helpful people.” An excerpt from one of the nominations describing outstanding kindness Ms. Smith demonstrated to students was read. Ms. Smith will receive a $500 award to purchase supplies or other items for her classroom. The award trophy is custom made by Glasslight Studio, St. Peter’s Village.

In May, finalists from all school districts in Chester County will gather at the banquet for final awards.

Yes, …….for the 2ndyear in a row, the OJR Band is selling mattresses as a fundraiser for our program.  I know it sounds crazy, but we tried it last year for the first time and it was a terrific success, so we are doing it again this year.  The date is Saturday, May 7th from 10:00am to 5:00pm in the High School Cafeteria.  Our cafeteria will be transformed into a giant mattress show room where you can come to look at all kinds of quality mattresses, pillows, etc.  You can purchase a mattress at a great price that day and our band will receive a portion of the proceeds as a fundraiser, so WIN / WIN!

Attached here is a save-the-date flyer.  More information will be distributed in the near future.  Mark your calendars…..even if you just want to swing by that day just to look at the available mattresses, we’d love to see you there on May 7th.

Thanks, everyone!

East Coventry Elementary celebrated a Week of Caring this week! During February, students focused on  understanding others.  They collected snacks for OJR families and have been learning about many important African Americans for Black History Month.  Each day this week had a different focus. The week kicked off with Manners Monday-focusing on being polite and using our manners ALL the time!  On  Compliment Tuesday students practiced giving each other compliments and understanding how good they make us feel.  On Smile and Say Hi Wednesday students were encouraged to smile and say Hi to as many people as they could. Did you know that smiling is contagious?? On Happy Gram Thursdaythe kids had the opportunity to send a special note or picture to a friend during the day.  Finally, Mix it Up Friday events included an awesome assembly, presentations by grade levels about the person they studied for black history month, dancing, a special message to a fellow student who cannot be in school right now, and conversation “hearts” at lunch to help kids learn something new about each other.
